Welcome to the Irish Texel Sheep Society
Welcome to the homepage of one of Irelands biggest sheep breeds. Our Society is made up of over 370 pedigree Texel sheep farmers based across the South of Ireland. This brings an exceptional choice to the commercial sheep farmers of Ireland. The breed is renowned for their hardiness, exceptional carcass fleshing ability and are extremely clean. These traits among others make Texel’s the ideal cross of the upland or lowland ewe necessary to produce the lambs to suit the needs of the commercial sheep farmer and the meat industry. We as a Society are dedicated to improving the profitability of Irish Sheep farming through breed development. We are currently the largest participant of the LambPlus programme. This is an exceptional additional aid to commercial farms to back up the physical attributes with statistical figures. We hold ram sales each year across the country which start in August each year with the Premier Sale at Blessington Mart. This is then followed by a large number of sales, the details of these can be seen in the sales section.
Our Premier Sale is also the main society female sale each year. We also occasionally have a small amount on offer at local ram sales. A number of regional club in lamb sales and private sales are also organised annually which mainly start in December.
If you have any queries regarding the breed or if you are thinking of purchasing ewes to become member, we would encourage you to contact us, via phone, email, Facebook, Twitter which the details can be seen below.
We also have a number of members with export eligible sheep and we would be more delighted to liaise with overseas customers and our pedigree sheep farmers.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and we look forward to meeting you at some of our shows or sales.
