Some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for Prospective New Members to The Irish Texel Sheep Society

Are you considering joining The Irish Texel Sheep Society?

It is recommended that any potential new members should contact the The Irish Texel Society prior to purchasing foundation stock from other registered flocks. This will help to ensure you get the right information before making that first initial investment.

What to Look out for?

Beware, If pedigree certificates are not supplied with your purchase(s) there is a high probability that these are been sold unregistered and therefore may not be eligible for registration with the Society for a particular reason. All females must be registered with …the Irish Texel Society prior to being sold for Pedigree breeding in the Republic of Ireland. Sheep bought that are registered with the British Texel Society will incur an importation registration charge to the Irish Texel Society.
All intending members must join the society prior to lambing. Lambs born outside membership of the Society cannot be registered after registering your flock with the Society.

When can I join the Irish Texel Society?

New Member Applications are accepted between September & December 31st of the year prior to lambing. Applications received after Dec 31st will not have a sale allocation for that calendar year.
Please note applications received after April 1st will be carried over until the following Autumn.

How do I join the Society?

Application forms can be downloaded from our website by clicking on this link and are also printed in sale catalogues throughout the season.

What happens next?

All new applications must be ratified by the Council of the Irish Texel Sheep Society prior to acceptance. Receipt of application does not guarantee acceptance.

What are the minimum requirements?

You must own five (5) Pedigree Registered female Texels. Certificates must be included with your application.

How much does it cost to join?

The initial cost is €115 & €5 per ewe mated.

What are the annual Society fees?

New Members Joining Fee €65.00

Annual Membership €50.00

Book of Birth Notification Forms €20.00

Registration Fees

Every Ewe mated fee before 31st October €  5.00  (€10 thereafter*)

* Late fees not accepted after 31st December. Full rejoining fees & outstanding balances are then due after this date.

Ewe Lamb & Hogget Registration €10.00

Ram Registration €20.00

Ram Notification (A.I use not imported) €10.00

Imported Ewe Reg (incl N.I ) €15.00

Imported Ram Reg (incl N.I) €35.00

Replacement Cert €10.00

 

Where do I send my application?

Applications must be received by post only. Application forms can be completed online but fees and certificates must be forwarded to the Society Secretary in order to be processed further.
