Treemore Jaguar cruises through to Growvite National Championships

The Sunny South East did not disappoint on the 12th of July for the Growvite National Championships.

The sun shone down on the beautiful setting of Dungarvan Show.

The judge on the day was Michael McHugh of the renowned Greenhill flock. Michael spoke highly of the exceptional standard of stock that was on display and is looking forward to following the sheep that are going to the Irish Texel Premier Sale on 14th and 15th of August.

The first class of the day was the Aged Ram. Coming out on top was Silverhill High Flyer from Declan Mangan. High Flyer was purchased as a lamb at the Premier Sale in Blessington.

Next up was the Aged Ewe class, with the first prize this time heading to County Cork with Edward Buckley and UVI2401917, a daughter of Forkins Fancy. She was later tapped forward as the Reserve Female Champion.

The Shearling Ram class followed, with the O’Keeffes coming out on top with their stock ram Knockhill Influencer, who is a son of Drumcon His Royal Highness and Knockhill Fair Lady.

The Shearling Ewe class was also claimed by a Drumcon His Royal Highness daughter from John Neville with UVI2502050. She heads to Blessington on 14 and 15 August.

Topping the Novice Ram lamb class was Josh Browne of the Kilcoo flock from Co. Wicklow with Mottee View Jynxy, a son of Strathbogie Gypsy King and Knockhill. This lamb also heads to Blessington on the 14th and 15th of August.

It was then over to the Open Ram lamb class, with the top spot this time going to John and Neil Kidd with Treemore Jaguar, a son of Drumcon His Royal Highness. He later went on to claim the Male Championship and Overall Supreme Championship title. This lamb also heads to Blessington next month.

Another lamb from the open ram lamb class that stood out to Michael was Patrick Joyce’s Duncyran Hakuna Matata son, who took second place and Reserve Male Champion in the overall championship.

It was then over to the Open Senior Ewe Lamb class, with the top spot heading to Kerry for Fergal O’Se with a daughter of Coniston Equinox. She later went on to win the Female Championship and Reserve Overall Champion. This ewe lamb also heads to Blessington.

The O’Keeffes were then back to their winning ways, with a son of Doughanhill Gangster taking first prize in the Junior Ram Lamb class. He also heads to Blessington.

It was then over to the March ewe lamb class, where a stylish ewe lamb from Thomas Whitehead, a daughter of Claybury Dunkirk, took the honours.

The last class of the day was the Novice Ewe Lamb class. It was back to Josh Browne, who took the novice classes by storm, claiming the class with a daughter of Strathbogie Gypsy King.
